EFM (Electronic Fare Management): VDV core application
With a potential implementation of the Electronic Fare Management (EFM) – substituting cash, currently used paper tickets and current tariffs step by step – the Verband Deutscher Verkehrsunternehmen (Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) embarks on the strategy of interoperability as an advantage for customers and transport operators. For this reason the “VDV core application” , a data and interface standard, was developed within the scope of a research project. The implementation of this standard enables customers to buy tickets from all participating transport operators or to take part in the “automated fare collection”, using one single chip card. For this purpose the operator interfaces are to become standardised. Furthermore collective tasks have been assigned to the VDV-Kernapplikations GmbH & Co. KG, which bring forward the development of further organisational rules – for additional information: www.vdv-ka.org.

Integration Interface for Automatic Vehicle Management Systems (VDV453+454)
The VDV recommendations 453 and 454, "Integration Interface for Automatic Vehicle Management Systems" set down common requirements for the design of interfaces between automatic vehicle management systems (AVMS). In addition to the main and cross-functional requirements, there is also a detailed description of the requirements on data exchange.

The recommendations VDV453 and VDV454 represent the subset of the CEN standard 'SIRI'(CEN-OO278181), Service Interface for Real Time Information, to be used in Germany.
